New London, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team remained in fifth place after two rounds of the ACC Championships, taking place at the par 72, 7,102-yard Old North State Club in Uwharrie Point. The Deacons improved by 11 strokes from yesterday, shooting a nine-under 279, and are -7 for the tournament with a 569.

Only two strokes separate third through fifth place, as NC State moved from fourth to third with a nine-under 279 on Saturday (288-279=567). North Carolina, third entering today's round, is one stroke back in fourth after shooting three-under (283-285=568). The Deacs are just one stroke behind in fifth (290-279=569).

Georgia Tech still leads the nine-team field with a 21-under 555. After shooting 17-under on Friday, the Yellow Jackets cooled off slightly, carding a four-under 284 in the second round. They still lead second-place Clemson, however, by five strokes heading into Sunday's final 18. The Tigers shot a eight-under 280 for the second straight day.

Florida State jumped to sixth place in the standings, while Virginia, Duke and Maryland round out the seventh through ninth spots.

"We've just got to take the same attitude tomorrow that we did today - we have nothing to lose," Wake head coach Jerry Haas said of his squad's performance on Saturday. "We knew we were capable of shooing much better than we did yesterday."

Four of the five Demon Deacons shot under par on Saturday, including sophomore Bill Haas, who is currently tied for fourth with a five-under 139 (70-69). Haas is six strokes back of field leader Dustin Bray of North Carolina, who has carded the low score in each of the first two rounds and owns an 11-under 133 (66-67).

Two other Deacons are among the top 20 on the leaderboard, as junior Chris Yoder also turned in a 69 on Saturday, vaulting into 12th place with a two-day total of two-under 142 (73-69). Junior Brent Wanner birdied hole No. 18 to finish two-under for the day and is one-under through two rounds (73-70=143). He is currently tied for 17th.

Senior Jay Morgan shot a one-under par on Saturday, and is 24th with a one-over 145 (74-71). Junior Chad Wilfong lowered his score by two strokes, finishing with a 74 on Saturday. He's currently in 39th place with a six-over 150 (76-74).

The final round of the ACC Championships take place on Sunday. Wake Forest, paired with North Carolina and Florida State, will tee off from 9:30 to 10:10 a.m.
