Wake Forest Takes Sixth Place At ACC Men's Golf

UWHARRIE POINT, NC - Wake Forest shot its best round of the tournament, but the sixth-ranked Demon Deacons had too much ground to make up and finished sixth at the ACC Men's Golf Championship here Sunday.

 

A four-under par 284 at the par 72 Old North State Club moved Wake Forest up from seventh place to sixth, finishing with a three-day total 889 (+25).

 

Duke (865 total) pulled away from Georgia Tech (869) to win the team title. NC State (880) finished third, followed by Clemson (883), Virginia (884), Wake Forest (889), Florida State (898), North Carolina (906), Maryland (915) and Virginia Tech (922).

 

Wake Forest junior Kyle Reifers shot a two-under 70 today and finished tied for 10th overall with a three-day 220 (+4). Freshman Webb Simpson fired a 3-under 69 to give him a 221 (+5) total and a tie for 13th place. Freshman Chris McCartin finished tied for 24th place after a 2-under 70 today. Junior Doug Manchester ended up with a 227 (+11) to tie for 30th place. Sophomore Sean Moore, the defending ACC champion, finished with a 231 (+15) and tied for 38th place.

 

Duke's Ryan Blaum won the individual title by eight strokes. Blaum was 5-under (67) today and finished with a three-day 206 (-10). Georgia Tech's Chan Song finished second and Virginia's Brad Tilley was third.

 

Wake Forest will break for more than a month before embarking on NCAA Regional play on May 19th.
