RALEIGH, NC - Wake Forest gained some momentum heading into the ACC Tournament despite losing by one stroke today at the Courtyard by Marriott Collegiate. The sixth-ranked Demon Deacons fell to Duke by one stroke and tied Georgia Southern for second place.
The 15-team tournament was originally scheduled to be a 54-hole event, but heavy rains on Friday shortened the tournament to 36 holes, which was completed this morning at the par 72 Devils Ridge Golf Club.
Wake Forest, looking for its first tournament victory since 2003, finished with a 15-under 561, just one shot behind the Blue Devils.
Deacon junior Kyle Reifers and freshman Webb Simpson finished tied for fourth in the individual race with scores of 7-under 137. Reifers and Simpson finished one stroke out of second place and five strokes behind individual medalist, Aron Price of Georgia Southern.
Sophomore Sean Moore finished tied for 20th at 1-under. Junior Doug Manchester finished at even par and tied for 25th place. Freshman Chris McCartin was 2-over and tied for 33rd.
The Courtyard by Marriott Collegiate was WFU's final tune-up before the ACC Championships April 15-17 at Uwharrie Point, NC. Wake's Sean Moore is the defending individual champion.
