Men's Golf In Fourth After Two Rounds of The Intercollegiate

April 9, 2004

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team sits in fourth place after 36 holes of The Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by NC State and taking place at MacGregor Downs Country Club. Twelve teams, including the ACC's "Big Four", are participating in the event.

The Demon Deacons shot a two-under par 286 as a team in the first round, good enough for third place. A three-over par 291 in the second round dropped the Deacs to fourth place at one-over 577 through two rounds, just two strokes back of third-place Minnesota. Kansas leads the field with a 14-under 562, while Duke sits in second at 565. Host NC State and SMU are tied for fifth, one stroke back of the Deacs at 578.

WFU senior Bill Haas leads the field after firing an impressive 64-69 in Friday's rounds. His 11-under 133 is three strokes ahead of Georgia Southern's Aron Price and Kansas's Kevin Ward, who are tied for second at 136. His first-round 64 tied a MacGregor Downs course record.

Sophomore Kyle Reifers is tied for 18th at even 144. Reifers shaved six strokes from his first to second round, carding 75-69 on Friday. Junior Doug Manchester, competing as an individual, shot 76-71 and is tied for 27th at three-over 147.

Freshman Sean Moore and senior Buck Williams are tied for 46th at six-over 150. Moore turned in a pair of 75s, while Williams turned in rounds of 72- 78. Freshman Matt McLean, competing in his first event of the spring, carded an 88-83 and is 81st at 27-over 171.

The final round of the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate takes place Saturday.
