The Wake Forest men's golf team closed play at the Augusta State Invitational shooting a weekend low 317 (29-over par) in the third round of play, giving the Demon Deacons a 16th place finish overall.
The Demon Deacons finished 13 strokes behind North Florida and 15 behind Virginia Tech, while Augusta State took home the title, shooting 290 (2-over par) in the third round for a one stroke advantage over Georgia.
Junior Chris McCartin led the Demon Deacons in the third round, closing the final 18 holes with the lowest round for the Deacs at 75 (3-over par). On the weekend, McCartin finished in a tie for 50th, at 21 over, along side fellow junior Kyle Reifer. Reifer closed out the tournament shooting 80 (8- over par) in the third round, while earlier in the weekend he shot 78 and 79, respectively.
After shooting 84 (12-over par) in the first round, junior Alex Yates shot 79 (7-over par) in both the second and the third rounds, putting him in a tie for 70th. Doug Manchester, who shot 81 (9-over par) in the second round and 83 (11-over par) in the third round also finished the tournament in a tie for 70th.
Wake Forest will participate in one last tournament next weekend before traveling to the ACC Championships April 15-17 in Uwharrie Point, N.C.
