The Wake Forest men's golf team, ranked 21st nationally, posted a third place finish at the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event, featuring 15 collegiate teams, was held at the par 72, 6,875-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.

Wake Forest finished the tournament with a six-under 858, finished just two strokes back of host Augusta State and NC State. The two teams tied for first place, with Augusta State winning the playoff for the team championship. The trio were the only schools to finish under par for the event.

A playoff situation occurred in the race for individual medalist honors as well. Wake Forest freshman Bill Haas (Greer, S.C.), tied for second heading into the final round, carded a 70 on Sunday's 18 holes to tie with Augusta State's Oliver Wilson for first place. Both players finished 54 holes with a nine-under 207 after Wilson sank a 50-foot chip on the final hole of the day. Wilson then won the first playoff hole with Haas for the victory.

The middle of the Deacon lineup all finished within one stroke of each other. Sophomore Brent Wanner (Chatham, Mass.) posted Wake's next highest finish, placing in a tie for 22nd with a one-over 217 (73-70-74). Junior Jay Morgan (Choctaw, Okla.) finished one stroke behind Wanner, placing 25th with a 218 (71-71-76), while sophomore Cortland Lowe (Augusta, Ga.), was right behind Morgan with a three-over 219 (73-71-75), placing 28th. Sophomore Chris Yoder (Ashland, Ohio), rounded out the Deacon lineup, placing 47th with a seven-over 223 (70-75-78).

The Wake Forest men's golf team returns to action on April 14-15, when they compete in The Intercollegiate at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
