AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Wake Forest men's golf team carded team scores of 292
and 294 in the first two rounds of play to stand tied for 12th place out of
19 teams at the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational. The event is
being contested on the par-72, 6875-yard course at the Forest Hills Golf
Club in Augusta.
With a 36-hole score of 586, or 10-over par, the Demon Deacons
stand 20 strokes behind team leader and tournament host Augusta State, who
is 10-under. The Deacs are tied for 12th place with both Wofford College
and Furman University.
Sophomore JAY MORGAN leads the Deacon field at 2-over par after
shooting 71-75 on the first day of play, and he stands in a six-way tie for
37th place. Morgan is nine strokes behind the individual co-leaders,
Augusta State's Jamie Elson and Charleston's Jedd McLeun, who are both
7-under. Deacon freshman BRENT WANNER is one stroke behind Morgan's group
in a nine-way tie for 43rd place, carding 73-74 for a 3-over par total on
the day. Redshirt freshman CORTLAND LOWE and freshman CHRIS YODER are part
of a eight-man logjam in 52nd place at 4-over par. Lowe shot 73-75,
while Yoder recorded a 78 and a 70 today. Freshman BUCK WILLIAMS rounds out
the Deacon field in a tie for 76th place at 8-over par after shooting 75-77.
The tournament continues with the final round of action on Sunday,
April 2nd.
