Deacons Finish In 12th At Hall Of Fame Invitational

HUMBLE, Texas - Wake Forest finished 12th in a strong field of 19 teams and junior Kyle Reifers finished seventh in the individual race at the Hall of Fame Inivtational here Sunday.

 

Wake Forest shot a 9-over 297 today, concluding the tournament with a 54-hole total of 888 (24-over par). Oklahoma State, which finished first with a cumulative 18-under, and UNLV, which shot a 16-under, ran away from the rest of the field. The Cowboys and Rebels were the only teams to finish under par at the par 72 Redstone Golf Club.

 

Demon Deacon junior Kyle Reifers, Wake's top finisher, shot an even par 72 on the final day, finishing tied for seventh place with a combined 213 (3-under par). UNLV's Ryan Moore, the defending NCAA champion, won individual medalist honors with a 10-under 206. Moore finished one stroke in front of Oklahoma State's Tyler Leon.

 

Other Deacon finishers included junior Doug Manchester (76-73-74--223), who tied for 41st place; freshman Chris McCartin (73-76-75--224), who tied for 47th; freshman Webb Simpson (76-77-76--229), who finished 74th;  Alex Yates (77-77-78--232), who finished tied for 80th playing as an individual; and freshman Dustin Groves (75-82-77--234), who tied for 84th.

 

The fifth-ranked Demon Deacons return to action March 27-29 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Charleston, SC.
