HUMBLE, Texas - Wake Forest struggled to a 13-over par 301 today in the second round of the Hall of Fame Invitational, falling from third place to an 11th-place tie.
The fifth-ranked Demon Deacons take a two-day total of 591 (15 over par) into Sunday's final round at the par 72 Redstone Golf Club. Wake Forest is 29 strokes behind leader Oklahoma State, which is threatening to run away with the tournament with an 18-under 562. UNLV, which is 12-under par, is in second place. The Cowboys and Rebels are the only two teams in the 19-team field under par.
Wake Forest junior Kyle Reifers, who led the individual race after 18 holes, followed his 6-under 66 with a 3-over 75 today and he is tied for sixth place entering the final round. Reifers is just three shots behind tournament leader and defending NCAA champion Ryan Moore of UNLV, who is 6-under par for the tournament.
Deacon junior Doug Manchester (76-73--149) and freshman Chris McCartin (73-76--149) are tied for 48th place. Freshman Webb Simpson, who shot a 77 today and is 9-over for the tournament, is tied for 72nd. Alex Yates, playing as an individual, shot a second straight 77 and is tied for 77th.
