Forced to play shorthanded the final two days of competition, the No. 19 Wake Forest men's golf team struggled to 14th place at the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate in Las Vegas. The Demon Deacons shot a final-round score of 317 to finish with a three-day total of 914 (+50).

Junior Chris McCartin paced Wake with a 75 (+3) on Sunday on the par 72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. His three-day total of 221 (+5) put him in a tie for 18th overall.

The Deacs were hampered by an injury to senior Sean Moore who was forced to withdraw from the tournament on Saturday. The Marshville, N.C., native played on Sunday, but he was not at full strength and his score was not counted toward the Deacons' team total.

Competing against a field that includes 11 teams ranked in the top 25, Wake Forest faced stiff competition the entire weekend. UCLA took the team crown with a three -day total of 282-305-287=874 (+10). The Bruins were led by Lucas Lee (-3), the tournament's individual champion, who won by a stroke over Kentucky's Alex Volpenhein (-2).

Georgia (+13) and Arizona (+21) finished second and third, respectively.

Freshman Brendan Gielow and junior Webb Simpson finished the tournament tied for 49th after each shot tournament totals of 230 (+14). Sophomore Dustin Groves fired a third-round score of 82 to finish with 237 (+21) in a tie for 74th.
