Men's Golf Tied For Ninth

Las Vegas, NV - The Wake Forest men's golf team is in a tie for ninth place out of 15 teams following the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, taking place at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Demon Deacons, who are tied with second-ranked Georgia Tech after a opening-round 297 (+9), sit nine strokes back of field leader and 14th-ranked Arizona State, who shot an even 288.

South Carolina and UCLA are tied for second at two-over, followed by Oklahoma State (+4), Washington (+5), host UNLV (+6), Georgia (+8) and Florida (+8).

Doug Manchester leads the Demon Deacon contingent, shooting an even-par 72 to currently sit in a tie for 10th. He trails leaders Mark Anderson of South Carolina and Daniel Im of UCLA by six strokes. Just nine players shot under par in the opening round, while Manchester is tied with eight others who shot par.

Deacon sophomore Sean Moore is tied for 19th with a one-over 73, while freshmen Chris McCartin and Webb Simpson and senior Kyle Reifers all sit in 48th place at four-over 76.

Second-round action gets underway Saturday. The 54-hole event is taking place on the par 72, 7,510-yard layout at Southern Highlands.
