Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest announced its 2001 football schedule, the first season under newly-appointed head coach Jim Grobe.

The 100th season of Wake Forest football will open on September 1, 2001 in Greenville, N.C., for the renewal of the East Carolina series. The non-conference schedule includes home games against Division I-AA semifinalist Appalachian State and Northern Illinois.

The conference opener is slated for September 22 when Maryland visits Groves Stadium. Wake Forest will also host North Carolina State, Clemson and Georgia Tech in Winston-Salem.
