Sophomore Adrian Duncan's interception, nine tackles earn him league honor.
Nov. 22, 1999
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest sophomore defensive back Adrian Duncan
(Dayton, OH/Patterson) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Defensive
Back of the Week as a result of his play in the football team's 26-23 upset
of No. 14 Georgia Tech on Saturday.
Duncan tallied nine tackles on the day, including seven solo hits, and had
a key interception in the second quarter. As Tech ventured into Deacon
territory for the first time, Duncan picked off Joe Hamilton at the WFU 17
and returned the ball 37 yards, helping Wake Forest maintain its 20-0
shutout of the Yellow Jackets in the first half. His most important play
came with 2:27 in the game, however, when he recovered Tech's onside kick
attempt with the score standing at 26-23.
The win gave Wake Forest its first winning season since 1992 at 6-5 and
earned the Deacons a trip to a bowl game for the first time since '92. The
Deacs now await their official selection to one of the ACC's five bowl
tie-ins, which is expected to come from the Jeep Aloha Christmas Classic in
Honolulu, Hawaii.
