Wake Forest Players Are Considered For All-ACC Honors

OFFENSE
MORGAN KANE (Sr, RB, 6-1, 220, Ottawa, Ontario)
- Through 10 games, ranks third in the ACC and 31st in the nation
in rushing (93.7 ypg)
- The key to a rushing offense that ranks fourth in the ACC and
37th in the nation
- On pace to become Wake Forest's first 1,000-yard rusher since
John Leach in 1993
- Has four 100-yard rushing games on the season, including a
211-yard effort in the season opener at Army
- Only the fifth Deacon ever to top the 200-yard mark in a game
(and the first since '93)
- Ranks fifth all-time at WFU in rushing yardage (2,326) and
attempts (608)
- Averages 23.6 carries per game, the eighth-highest season average
in school history
- Leads the Deacs and ranks 10th in the ACC in scoring with 66
points (11 Tds)
BRIAN WOLVERTON (Sr, OG, 6-5, 310, Winston-Salem, NC)
- One of Wake's two "ironmen" (with Settar, below), had his
impressive streak of 1,913 consecutive plays covering 27 games disrupted
when he got a rest in the fourth quarter of the Deacs' 47-3 blowout of UAB
- Aside from that brief rest, played every offensive snap in '99
- Consistently graded out at over 90 percent in both run- and pass-
blocking
- Helped Wake Forest go from a rushing offense that ranked dead
last in the nation in 1998 (65.4 ypg)to one that ranks No. 2 in the ACC
(161.1 ypg), an almost 100 yards per game improvement
SAM SETTAR (Sr, OG, 6-4, 320, Marlton, NJ)
- One of Wake Forest's two "ironmen" (with Wolverton, above),
Settar had a streak of 1,729 consecutive offensive plays snapped this year
when he went down with an injury in Game 3
- Had played in every single play since the start of the 1997
season (over 25 games)
- Missed four games with the injury, but still graded out at over
90 percent for the year when healthy
- Helped Wake Forest go from a rushing offense that ranked dead
last in the nation in 1998 (65.4 ypg)to one that ranks No. 2 in the ACC
(161.1 ypg), an almost 100 yards per game improvement
DEFENSE
DUSTIN LYMAN (Sr, ILB, 6-4, 248, Boulder, CO)
- Fought back from two knee surgeries in the past year to return to
the starting lineup
- Anchors a defense ranked No. 2 in the ACC and No. 22 in the nation
- That same defense ranked last in the ACC last year with Lyman and
Moses (below) out with injuries
- In eight games, has recorded 43 tackles, including 24 solo hits,
seven tackles for losses of 38 yards and two sacks for losses of 21 yards.
Team's fifth-leading tackler overall
- Also has two pass break-ups, a forced fumble, two fumble
recoveries and a blocked extra point
KELVIN MOSES (Sr, ILB, 6-2, 232, Hartsville, SC)
- Fought back from a serious knee injury which sidelined him for
over a year and was granted a rare sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA
- Despite missing the season opener and seeing limited action in
his first two games back, he ranks as the team's leading tackler on the
season with 58 hits (35 solo) in nine games
- Recorded eight tackles for losses of 25 yards and two sacks for
13 yards, as well as a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception
- The Deacs' leading tackler in five of the last seven games
(second-leading tackler in the other two)
BRYAN RAY (Jr, DE, 6-3, 250, Wheaton, MD)
- In his second year as a starter, has established himself as one
of the top pass-rush specialists in the ACC
- Part of a defense which ranks No. 2 in the ACC, both overall and
against the run
- Through nine games, ranks second in the ACC in sacks (10 for 71
yds) and tackles-for-loss (19 for 91 yds)
- Those 10 sacks and 19 TFLs rank as the second-highest season
totals in school history, behind current Baltimore Raven Mike McCrary
- Ranks as the Deacons' third-leading tackler overall with 51 hits
(33 solo)
- Has also tallied one pass break-up and three forced fumbles
- Best game came in Wake's 31-7 win over NC State, when he
collected five TFLs and three sacks to earn ACC Defensive Lineman of the
Week honors
- Recorded a career-high 12 tackles vs. Army
FRED ROBBINS (Sr, DT, 6-5, 302)
- Also a key to Wake Forest's intimidating pass rush which has
netted 26 sacks through 10 games
- Was very often double-teamed by opposing offensive lines
- Ranks second on the team with 13 tackles-for-loss (for -36 yards)
and four sacks (for -17 yards)
- Ranks as the team's sixth-leading tackler overall with 39 hits
(31 solo)
- Also has a pass break-up, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery
- Ranks in the top three all-time at WFU in career sacks (42) and
TFLs (14)
DALAWN PARRISH (Sr, FS, 5-11, 199, Columbia, MD)
- The emotional leader of the Demon Deacons' defense
- Despite missing one game and being hampered in several others by
a foot injury, ranks as the team's second-leading tackler with 56 hits,
including 35 solo stops
- Has collected two interceptions, a pass break-up and a fumble
recovery
- Part of a defense ranked No. 22 in the nation against the pass
REGGIE AUSTIN (Sr, CB, 5-11, 174, Atlanta, GA)
- Key member of a defense ranked No. 22 in the nation against the pass
- Through 10 games, has collected 38 tackles (28 solo)
- Has a team-high five pass break-ups and two interceptions as well
as two forced fumbles
- Also a dangerous punt returner, ranking fifth in the ACC and 32nd
in the nation with a 10.7 ypr average
