Wake Forest's Home Football Finale vs. UNC Is Sold Out

Nov. 9, 2004

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Saturday's Wake Forest football game at Groves Stadium against North Carolina is sold out, athletic department officials announced on Tuesday. More than 37,000 tickets have been purchased.

Groves Stadium's official seating capacity is 31,500. However, that number does not include up to 4,000 tickets on Deacon Hill in the south endzone, plus standing room only tickets.

To house additional fans for the North Carolina game, temporary bleachers are being constructed in front of Bridger Field House and atop Deacon Hill. That construction will allow for 2,000 more fans bringing the total seating capacity to 37,500 plus standing room only.

The largest crowd in Groves Stadium history was 37,411 in 1980 to watch the Demon Deacons and Tar Heels. This Saturday's attendance number should rival that figure and could surpass it.

Wake Forest should shatter its single season attendance record. The record has been broken each of the last two seasons. In 2003, the Deacons averaged 28,273 fans at Groves Stadium.

The game will kick off at noon and be televised by Jefferson-Pilot Sports.
