Quotes from Wake Forest's weekly football press conference
Head Coach Jim Caldwell
On Anthony Young's health status:
"He's doubtful. I'm not sure when we'll know for sure but the chances
of him playing are very slim."
On the possibility of having James MacPherson as the starting
quarterback:
"He played the great majority of the past two games and we've been able
to be fairly productive. We will plan on being able to do that once
again."
On the Duke win:
"It helps. It doesn't erase everything that has happened previously
this season but certainly as you look forward, it gives you a
springboard to work from. And it's evidence that we've gotten better.
We executed fairly well, we ran the ball effectively and we stopped the
run on defense. Those are two very important areas to control because
that means you're controlling the line of scrimmage which is how you win
football games."
On Florida State:
"Often times, you get ready for a team by looking at the film for
weaknesses and try to exploit that. They have none. They really
don't. They don't have any offensively. They don't have any
defensively. They don't have any in the kicking game. That's why
they've been one of the best teams in the nation for the past ten
years. They're awfully good."
On the team's plan of attack:
"First of all, you have to do the things you do well and not try to
adjust your attack according to what someone else does. You better do
the things you know how to do well. And that's how we'll go into this
ballgame on both sides of the ball and in the kicking game. You can't
waste time trying to adopt an offensive or defensive strategy that's
going to knock their socks off. That's not going to happen. You have
to do what you do best and focus in on that. Anything can happen."
Senior special teams captain Mike Koch
On winning their first game of the season:
"It's been absolutely fantastic. The food tastes better. Everything is
great. You can walk around with your chin up because there is so much
hard work that this team has put it trying to get this thing turned
around. We stuck with it and we finally achieved that win. Plus, now
the young guys that finally that good taste in their mouths."
On the possibility of not winning a game:
"That's something that the seniors had talked about. We were not going
to let that happen. We put so much time into this program to help turn
it around. We made a pact that we were not going to let that happen.
The win against Duke was fantastic. It took the big monkey off our
backs. Now we can look forward without all the pressure."
On facing #3 Florida State:
"When you come to play in the ACC, you do it because you want to play
the best. It's a great opportunity. After winning against Duke, and
now playing Florida State, it's perfect for us. We're going in there
with a positive attitude that comes with winning. We can go in there
and give them a tough game. They are a fantastic team. They are
unbelievable but we need to worry about ourselves. We need to do what
we're supposed to be doing."
On the team's plan of attack:
"We have go out there and play football. It's still a simple game. The
team that is most disciplined is going to win the game. We need to make
sure we are hitting hard and that we stay in the confines of our
offense, our defense and our special teams. I think we need to be at
our best."
On playing in his last game at Groves Stadium:
"It's too early. It will hit me after the game but right now, I'm going
into this one thinking about knocking guys around."
