Winston-Salem, N.C. -
The Wake Forest football team wraps up spring drills with its annual Spring Game this Saturday,
April 21, at 1:00 p.m. at Groves Stadium. The Deacon squad will split up and go head-to-head in a scrimmage, as spectators
can get a sneak preview of the first Wake Forest squad fielded by new head football coach Jim Grobe.
Wake welcomes back 47 letterwinners in 2001 and returns 10 starters on offense and nine on defense. Quarterbacks James
MacPherson and Anthony Young, who split time as the starting signal-caller last season, will lead the offensive units in
Saturday's game. On the other side of the ball, tackle Nate Bolling and linebackers Marquis Hopkins and Ed Kargbookorogie are
rising seniors and veteran Deacon defenders.
The public is invited to attend the Spring Game. Admission to the game is free, but for $5.00 fans can purchase a ticket for a
picnic lunch at the stadium prior to the game. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. on the Groves Stadium concourse. For more
information, call 336-758-5011.
The Demon Deacons, who finished 2-9 last season, open the 2001 campaign at East Carolina on September 1. Wake's home
opener is September 8 versus Appalachian State.
