DaLawn Parrish is only the fourth four-time honoree in ACC history.
Feb. 9, 2000
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest senior defensive back DaLawn Parrish,
senior offensive lineman Brian Wolverton and senior defensive tackle Kelvin
Shackleford were selected to the 1999 Atlantic Coast Conference
All-Academic football team, announced today by ACC Commissioner John
Swofford. To be eligible, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point
average for the fall semester or have maintained a 3.00 cumulative average
during his academic career.
Parrish, who holds a 3.4 GPA in History Education, becomes only the
fourth player in ACC history to be named to the All-Academic Team four times. Parrish started 11 games at free safety for the Deacs this
fall, ranking second on the team in total tackles with 69 (42 solo) and
snaring two interceptions.
Wolverton, a graduate student who holds a perfect 4.0 in History
Education, played in all 11 Deacon games this fall, and had a streak of
1,913 consecutive plays halted this past season when he took a break during
the team's blowout of UAB. He received his undergraduate degree in communication
last spring and is enrolled in Wake Forest's Master Teacher Fellows program.
Shackleford, who has a 3.2 GPA in sociology, is a first-time member
of the All-Academic squad. He started 10 games at defensive tackle for the
Deacs, recording 15 tackles, two tackles-for-loss and one sack.
The Deacs enjoyed their best campaign since 1992 this past fall,
posting a 7-5 overall record and winning the Jeep Aloha Bowl on Christmas
Day.
