Greensboro, N.C. - Wake Forest center Vince Azzolina was named to the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic football team as announced by Commissioner John Swofford. To be eligible, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the fall semester or have maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Wake Forest¡¦s Azzolina, a 6-4, 275-pounder from Easton, Pa., received his degree in Communications from Wake Forest this past December, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA during his final semester. He has also been named to the WFU Dean¡¦s List throughout his collegiate career and appeared on the ACC Honor Roll.

Azzolina was a mainstay on the Deacon offensive line during his entire four years, starting 37 consecutive games dating back to his freshman season. He was the anchor of a line that helped Wake Forest average an ACC-best 221.6 rushing yards per game in 2001 ¡V its best mark in 30 years. The unit also gave up just 13 sacks all year, a figure which ranked first in the ACC.

Azzolina was a 2001 honorable mention All-ACC selection, and was tabbed ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week following the Deacons¡¦ win over North Carolina this past season.

Azzolina becomes the 84th Wake Forest selection on the All-ACC Academic football team since 1954. The Demon Deacon football program has had at least one representative on the team every year since 1973.
