Saw action in all 12 games, including the Aloha Bowl ... finished as the team’s third-leading receiver with 19 catches for 161 yards (8.5 avg) ... caught at least one pass in nine of 11 regular season games ... had a career-high six catches vs. Duke (for 48 yards) and a career-high 61 yards (on 4 catches) vs. Virginia ... also served as the Deacs’ top holder ... often utilized as the third receiver in the Deacs’ three-receiver sets ... returned two punts for 16 yards ... caught a 56-yard strike from quarterback Ben Sankey versus Arizona State in the Jeep Aloha Bowl — the longest catch of the day by either team.

Saw action at receiver in four contests … all three of his receptions, including a 20-yarder, came in season finale at Georgia Tech … each of those receptions were part of two late touchdown drives … served as backup holder and saw some brief action late in the schedule when regular holder Desmond Clark was slowed by a knee injury.

Background
The oldest son of Wake Forest head coach Jim Caldwell ... enjoyed an excellent career at nearby Mount Tabor High for coach Bob Sapp, capping it with a selection to the East-West All-Star game and being named the Forsyth County player of the year (Winston-Salem Chronicle) … caught 35 passes for 720 yards (20.6 per) and 12 TDs as a senior … also had five interceptions as a defensive back while handling the Spartan punting and kickoff return duties … was named one of top 25 players in North Carolina by the Charlotte Observer … a two-time all-league selection as well as the ’96 conference player of the year … standout on the hardwood, too, earning all-conference honors as a junior and senior … named team MVP both of those years as well … even found time to participate in track, too, and was a member of state championship 4x100 relay team … an honor roll student who also served as an elementary school mentor in the local DARE program … chosen sociology as his major at WFU … age 21 (2/4/79).
