GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wake Forest senior center Kyle Visser was named to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Basketball Team, announced today by league commissioner John Swofford.
Visser, a 6-11 Grand Rapids (Mich.) native, was named to the team for the third consecutive year. He is the first Demon Deacon since Broderick Hicks (from 1999-2002) to make the All-ACC Academic Team three consecutive years. A communication major, Visser averaged 5.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and started 17 times last season as a junior.
To be eligible for consideration, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Five players, including Visser and Clemson's Shawan Robinson are repeaters from previous league all-academic teams. In addition to Robinson and Visser, other repeaters from previous academic teams are Virginia Tech's Coleman Collins, NC State's Illian Evtimov and North Carolina's Byron Sanders.
