Hicks Scores Big As Wake Rolls, 85-60
Sophomore's 17 points help Deacs pick up third straight win.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Sophomore guard Broderick Hicks came off the
bench to score 17 points as Wake Forest rolled to its third straight victory on
Saturday night with an 85-60 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Freshman Josh Howard added 12 points for the Demon Deacons (3-0). Forward
Josh Shoemaker also came off the bench to score 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting as
the Demon Deacons shot 55 percent from the field.
The Hawks (1-2) got a career-high 36 points from senior guard Demetric
Reese, but no other player reached double figures. After shooting 55 percent in
the first half, the Hawks cooled off and shot just 25 percent in the second
half.
The Demon Deacons opened the second half with a 14-7 run to take a 58-39
lead with 12:56 to go. During that run, the Hawks were just 1 of 10 from the
field and never threatened after that.
With 9:41 to go, the Demon Deacons stretched their lead to 67-47 on Robert
O'Kelley's two free throws.
In the first half, Wake Forest broke open a close game with a 12-0 run over
four minutes. The Hawks went nine possessions without scoring as the Demon
Deacons turned a 23-22 deficit into a 34-23 lead with 3:30 left in the half.
The Hawks' scoreless streak ended when Reese hit a 3-pointer with 3:02 left
in the half. The Hawks pulled to 38-33 with less than a minute to go in the
half, but a layup by Howard followed by a Shoemaker layup off a missed free
throw pushed the Demon Deacons' lead back to 42-33.
The Demon Deacons, led by Howard's 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting in the first
half, took a 44-35 lead at halftime.
