An athletic, exceptionally quick guard who loves to push the ball up
court... constantly keeps pressure on the defense... has a chance to
shine in Wake’s new up-tempo style of play... an offensive threat who
can shoot from the perimeter (31 three-pointers last season)... was one
of Wake’s most improved players last season... emerged as the Deacons’
starting point guard for much of last season after serving as a back-up
his first two years... has the tools to be a very good defensive
player... hasn’t missed a game in his three seasons at Wake Forest,
suiting up for 97 contests... will leave WFU ranked among the all-time
leaders in games played... with 177 career assists, could also finish
ranked among Wake’s all-time leaders in that category... takes care of

2000-01
Played in all 30 games, starting 18 of them... started every game from
the beginning of the season through Dec. 21... Wake Forest went 10-0 in
those games... was replaced as a starter by Ervin Murray, but regained
the starting job later in the season when he started eight of the final
10 games of the season... averaged 6.9 points per game (fifth on the
team)... averaged 8.1 points per contest in ACC games... shot 37.8
percent (31-of-82) from three-point range... shot a solid 77.1 percent
(37-of-48) from the free throw line... ranked second on the team with 77
assists... blocked seven shots... ranked second on the team in steals
with 37... ranked eighth in the ACC in assist-to-turnover ratio with 77
assists and just 42 turnovers... dished out a career-high eight assists
in a home win over Navy... went on a three-game tear in January when he
scored 52 points and made nine three-point field goals in three
consecutive games... scored a season-high 18 points and went 4-of-6 from
three-point range in a home win over Clemson... scored 16 points and
grabbed a season-high seven rebounds in a road loss at Duke... matched
his season-high with 18 points and sank three three-point field goals in
an overtime loss at Cincinnati... came off the bench for 14 points and
three three-point field goals in a home loss to Final Four-bound
Maryland... matched a career-high with five steals to go with five
assists in a 92-60 road win at Clemson... dished out seven assists and
scored eight points in narrow two-point home loss to Duke... scored 10

1999-00
Saw action in all 36 games and started twice... saw significant minutes
throughout the season... played 20 minutes late in the year against
Virginia when O’Kelley was in foul trouble... played 22 minutes in NIT
semifinal win over NC State at Madison Square Garden... scored six
points and added three assists in NIT win over California... scored five
points in five minutes against New Mexico in NIT action... had six
points on 2-of-3 shooting and added three assists and a steal at
Vanderbilt in the opening round of the NIT... started against UNC
Greensboro and against Florida State in the ACC opener... played a
career-high 30 minutes at Davidson, where he scored eight points... hit
5-of-6 free throws in the final minutes of the North Carolina game to
help seal the win over the Tar Heels... came off the bench for four
crucial free throws (4-of-4) at Clemson... scored 12 points in 19
minutes at Arkansas and went 4-of-4 from the line in the final minute to
secure the six-point victory... scored a season-high 17 points on 7-of-8
shooting against Maryland-Eastern Shore... hit 18-of-23 free throw
attempts in 16 ACC games.
1998-99
Started seven times at point guard, and played in all 31 games... came
off the bench in the last 18 games of the season, seeing quality action
in most contests… outstanding in win over Florida State, scoring 15
points in the final 9:09 as the Deacs rallied from a 19-point deficit to
claim a 67-65 win… hit two free throws with 5.2 seconds left to seal
that victory… first starting opportunity came versus UNC Greensboro in
November and he responded with 10 points and turnover-free play in 18
minutes… scored a season-high 20 points (all in 2nd half) in the
following game vs. Mercer (a 75-57 Wake Forest victory)... registered a
third-straight double-figure scoring outing with 10 points in win over
WIlliam & Mary… owned six double-figure scoring outings on the season
(the Demon Deacons were a perfect 6-0 in those contests)... scored six
or more points in nine games (the Deacs went 9-0 in those games, too)...
began the year on a hot streak, hitting 17-of-27 shots (63.0 percent) in
the season's first five games... struggled from the free throw line in
the first half of the season, hitting just 8-19 free throws... however,
he was 13-17 (76.5 percent) from the line thereafter… recorded
season-highs of six assists and five rebounds in win over Coastal
Carolina… matched that assist total with six at Duke... finished the
season with 48 assists, tied for the second-highest total on the team.
High School
Considered one of the best point guards nationally among 1998's high
school seniors… starred in one of the premier independent school
programs in the state of Texas… helped Strake Jesuit High to a 27-6
record and a state title in 1998, the fifth for the Crusaders in six
years… scored 32 points, handed out 8 assists and made 6 steals in
championship victory over Dallas Jesuit… says winning that state
championship ranks among his biggest thrills as an athlete... averaged
21.7 points, 7.2 assists and 4.1 steals per game as a senior under coach
Chuck Kenny... played for Butch Sigler his first three years at Strake
Jesuit… scored 25 points and dished out 5.2 assists per contest as a
junior... teammate on the Strake Jesuit basketball squad with Ed
Kargbo-Okorogie, who plays linebacker on the Wake Forest football team
and played as a freshman on the Deac basketball team… the school has
produced numerous Division I players, including Jake Voskuhl (UConn) and
Michael LeBlanc (Vanderbilt).
Personal
Comes from an athletic family... his father Jim played baseball and
football at Illinois before going on to a major league baseball career
(White Sox, Cardinals & Angels from 1964-1970)… enjoys playing tennis
when not working on his hoops game… member of the Black Student Union in
high school and was a "Minorities in Medicine" honoree… not sure what he
wants to do post-college but says he hopes to have a big family… played
on the same AAU team with Rashad Lewis, Alton Ford, Adam Hall and George
Williams... joined the Wake Forest program with an early commitment in
the November signing period (1997)… the combination of Wake Forest's
great academic offerings and the chance to play in the ACC helped to
make him a Demon Deacon... also came to Wake Forest “to win,” Hicks
said... hobbies include video games and football.
