Corbean, a former player for Skip Prosser and Pete Gillen at Xavier University, brings a tremendous wealth of experience to the Demon Deacon program.

"It is very important for our entire staff to build on the goals that Skip Prosser set for the program and help Coach (Dino) Gaudio build on those goals," said Corbean upon his hiring in August 2007.

Corbean has a long-standing relationship with Gaudio. While Gaudio was serving as the head coach at Army from 1993-97, Corbean spent three years as a West Point assistant coach.

Corbean joined the Wake Forest staff after serving as the head basketball coach at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Ind. In seven seasons, Corbean led the Grenadiers to a 140-95 record and three National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) National Tournament appearances. He also captured four Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. His most successful season came in 2005-06 when IUS finished ninth in the nation in the final NAIA Division II poll with a record of 30-4.

Corbean began his coaching career at his high school alma mater, The Seven Hills School in Cincinnati. He was an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach for four seasons before earning his degree in psychology from Xavier in 1991.

Corbean then broke into the collegiate coaching ranks as an assistant coach at Northern Kentucky University. He spent four seasons as an assistant at NKU, the last two of which he also served as academic coordinator. Corbean was instrumental in helping the Norsemen reach the Sweet 16 of the 1995 NCAA Division II Tournament.

He joined Gaudio's staff at Army in 1995 and spent three years with the Black Knights, including one season as the recruiting coordinator. Corbean became an assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky for two seasons from 1998-2000 before taking the head job at IUS.

While at IUS, Corbean coached nine players that earned All-KIAC honors. He also recruited three former Indiana High School All-Stars.

Corbean graduated from Xavier University with a degree in psychology in 1991.

As a Musketeer from 1985-87, Corbean helped Xavier to a pair of Midwestern Collegiate Conference championships and a two-year record of 44-18. He played for head coach Pete Gillen while Prosser was an assistant coach for the Musketeers.

Corbean earned his master's degree in secondary education from Northern Kentucky in 1997.

Walt and his wife, Kathy, are the parents of a four-year old son, Trey.
