Andy Goff's Cape Cod Baseball League Diary #2

June 15, 2005

Hello again Deacon Fans,

Just touching base from Bourne, Mass. After five grueling days of practice, the season is finally almost here! We open the season tomorrow afternoon against Cotuit. First-pitch is at 5 PM. I am very anxious to get started and see what I can do against the best competition in the country.

Last night, we had our annual first pitch dinner where the players and their host families are recognized. It was a quiet, little gathering at one of the local high schools. The General Manager and President of the Braves spoke about the tradition of the Cape and told us that it would be the best summer of our lives. They also gave us a homework assignment. We are to watch the DVD "Touching the Game". I am told that some former Deacons are actually in the film.

Today, we have our last team practice before tomorrow's opener. I suspect it to be more of the same, ground balls and batting practice. I joined a local gym on Monday as to please our strength and conditioning coach -- the Professor Dave Bass. It isn't too flashy but it will get the job done.

That's all I got for now, be sure to check back in a couple days for updates on the first couple of games.

Take Care - Go Deacs
