George Washington head coach Tom Walter...
"I'm real proud of our club this year. We had an outstanding year, We had great play out of our upperclassmen all year long. I'm just real proud; obviously I'm a little disappointed in how we played the last two days. I didn't think it was a good indication of our ball club, our talent level. But we came up here today and faced a good left-handed pitcher in Foster and they did a real nice job on us."
On short turn-around time bewteen games:
"No, I don't think so. We've done that before - come play at night then play the next day. I don't think that was a factor for us. I think we just came out and didn't do as good as job offensively. I didn't think we had as good a plan as we should have offensively. We didn't know much about Foster. I felt there were a couple plays again today that we didn't make and probably could have turned the game around. They got two big, two-out hits. They got a base hit up the middle and a home run. In that situation, your starting pitcher has got to buckle down and make an out in that situation."
On having the go-ahead run at the plate:
"That's what we talked about before the inning. Just find a way to get Mike (Bassett) a swing. If Mike got a swing then we'd have a chance to win the ball game."
Navy head coach Steve Whitmyer...
"That was a great win for us. It was pretty emotional, actually for me. Our guys were pretty disappointed because they didn't feel like they showed anybody here in the regonal or nationally that we belonged to be here. I think they had a little bit more extra incentive and motivation to play well today. They gave every ounce of everything they had. I'm real proud of them. We definitely got to rest a little but in this heat; we're not used to this heat. But, just going to get off our feet for a couple hours and gather back. Our guys are pretty mentally tough so we'll try to really compete tonight as well."
On answering in the first inning to get run back:
"That was huge. I've been emphasizing all year that we need to try to get off to a good start. So when you don't get off to quite as good a start as you want and give up a run, that can be a real spark when you come back and score back. You got to do that in these tournament games. You can't afford to get down too far, especially our team. We're not the kind of team that's normally going to score a ton of runs. We need to try to stay ahead or stay close."
On pitcher Matt Foster:
"Matt Foster really did a super job holding them down after that (first inning). He stepped up and pitched a great game and we got some timely hitting."
Navy pitcher Matt Foster...
"I came with the mindset that I wanted to get as far into the game as possible. We used a lot of pitching yesterday, so we really didn't want to use a lot today. So, I tried to bear down a little bit and I'm really surprised that I got through seven and a third. But I'm happy with it and I'm happy that our offense came through today. What I'm really happy about is every time they scored a run, we came back and scored to match it."
