TODAY'S TOP STORIES

Deacons Seek to Put the Brakes on Long Streak in Raleigh...
Wake Forest visits NC State this weekend for a three-game series with the Wolfpack at Doak Field. Friday's game can be heard on 98.1 WBRF. The Deacons send Justin Keadle to the mound against Michael Rogers on Friday night with a 7:00 p.m. start time.

Saturday's contest will be televised at 1:00 p.m. on Fox Sports South as Mike Hogewood and Dan Bonner call the action. Wake Forest's Kyle Young will oppose Vern Sterry. On Sunday, the Deacons and Wolfpack wrap up the series beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Wake Forest has won 12 of the last 18 meetings but NC State leads the series 87-48 since 1954.

Power Surge...
Steve LeFaivre, one of the most powerful hitters in the ACC, connected for three home runs last weekend at Duke, upping his season total to eight round trippers. LeFaivre is having an excellent senior season, batting .319 with 26 RBI. He leads the team in slugging percentage (.588) and has hit ACC pitching at a .386 clip (17-44, 4 HR).

Blue Streak...
Fifth-year senior and leadoff hitter Nick Blue carries 10-game hitting streak into this weekend's action, a season-team best. During that stretch, Blue is hitting a team-best .375 (15-for-40) with five stolen bases, raising his average from .292 to .321. Blue is the last remaining starter from Wake Forest's 2001 ACC Championship team.

Today's Number to Note is...
.208 - Wake Forest's team batting average with runners in scoring position during this 13-game losing streak (26-125).

Antonelli: A Leading Candidate for ACC Rookie of the Year...
Matt Antonelli has been an immediate impact player for the Demon Deacons this spring. The third baseman has shown the ability to do a little bit of everything. Antonelli has been at .300 or better everyday this year except for three days. He hit a game-tying, ninth inning homer against Georgia Tech and is 10-for-11 on the basepaths. Antonelli has shown patience at the plate, drawing 21 walks against only 11 strikeouts. Against UNC, he collided with J.B. Tucker in foul ground, needing 25 stitches to close three gashes on his face but the former Massachusetts HS Hockey and Football Player of the Year didn't miss a game.

Streak Notes...
Thirteen straight losses is the second longest losing streak in school history. Wake Forest hasn't lost 13 in a row since the 1974-75 seasons when the Wake Forest lost 14 straight. At 11-21, these Deacons are certainly in unfamilar territory. Last year's team didn't lose its 21st game until May 16.
