MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - With Wake Forest's 13-6 win over Minnesota Sunday, and Notre Dame's 6-4 win over Georgia later that day, the Deacons were crowned champions of the 2000 Hormel Foods Baseball Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Deacons were 2-1 in the tournament, losing to Notre Dame on the first day, then bouncing back to defeat both Georgia and Minnesota on the last two days.

Wake third baseman Corey Slavik was given the Outstanding Player Award for the tournament. Slavik hit .583 (7-for-12) for the tournament with eight RBI, two doubles, a triple and a home run. Slavik is currently hitting .528 for the season and was last week's Co-Player of the Week in the ACC.

In addition to Slavik, Wake placed three other players on the All-Tournament Team. Catcher Dan Conway, second baseman Jason Aquilante and designated hitter Danny Borrell all earned All-Tournament honors.

The Deacons return to action on Tuesday when they host the Virginia Commonwealth Rams. Gametime is set for 3 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
