Wake Forest vs. Clemson - Postgame Quotes

May 25, 2007

WAKE FOREST HEAD COACH Rick Rembielak
Overall thoughts on the game...
"Obviously, with the experience that we have had with one-run ball games it has been tough on us. This win is definitely a huge positive for us, especially at this time during the tournament and against a very good Clemson team."

On Brad Kledzik's pitching...
"I give a lot of the credit to Brad Kledzik for hanging in there, stopping momentum when he needed to, and keeping us in the ball game. We have talked about damage control all year and when you can do that and you can stay close late in the game then you have an opportunity to tie it or even win it. I thought he (Brad) did a great job today and much better tonight than his last outing out. He kept himself under control and was very composed throughout the game."

On Andy D'Alessio's triple in the sixth inning...
"I thought when he hit it that it was definitely going out of the park. We have sat here for two days, watching the wind blow in and seen balls not go out even though they were smoked. Originally, I was thinking that the only chance a ball was to get out was a line drive down the line. But the way that ball was hit and the way that Willy (Fox) reacted to it, we thought for sure that it was out. The wind definitely caught it and helped us out, but that inning right there was probably the biggest moment in the game. The second turning point was when they didn't get an out in order to keep us from staying alive."

On Willy Fox's bunt in the bottom of the ninth...
"That was actually the first time that he had bunted this year. I have always had the philosophy that whenever you put a sacrifice on, then you have three strikes to get the job done. It is awfully tough to do it with the 0-2 count. In that situation we had advanced the runners and I felt that it put a lot of pressure on him to make it happen. With him facing a very good pitcher and to his credit, that was a difficult situation to play through."

WAKE FOREST OUTFIELDER Willy Fox
On getting the bunt sign from Coach Rembielak...
"I knew that it was a bunting situation and thought that Coach would give it to me, so when he did I knew that I had to get the job done. With the 0-2 bunt sign I was just trying to put the ball in play and give ourselves a chance to move our runners over. I haven't bunted in quite a while, but fortunately, we were able to keep the inning going."

CLEMSON HEAD COACH JACK LEGGETT
Overall thoughts on the game...
"We have to collect ourselves and be ready to play tomorrow. It was a disappointing loss for us. We had runners on base and we needed to come up with a big hit, but we had trouble doing that. At pivotal times we had a lead-off triple but we couldn't get him in with nobody out. We had the two-run lead, then we walked or hit the lead-off man and that put us in a tough position when they tied it up. Then we didn't execute at the end. We were doing a good job of building possible innings, and we've been doing a good job of playing from behind, but it's been difficult for us to distance ourselves once we get going. We started out and executed well, but we stopped midway through the game."

CLEMSON FIRST BASEMAN ANDY D'ALESSIO
On his triple in the sixth inning...
"I hit that ball pretty well. Off the bat I definitely thought it was out. It seemed to hit a wall out there with the 30 mph gusts. Unfortunately we should have still scored that inning with the infield in, runner on third and no outs, but we didn't do the little things to win today and they came back to haunt us in the end."
