2002 ACC Baseball Tournament
Wake Forest vs. North Carolina
Wake Forest head coach George Greer:
"I thought this was an outstanding game played by two teams, just
typical of a super-regional final. We have been in those situations
before and I think that helped us, but Carolina is a terrific team and
we are just very fortunate to come out on the long end tonight."
"The game could have turned at any moment, there were some plays that
were made in the field for them and for us that were deciding factors.
The double play that they turned and the unconventional double play that
we turned - a line drive to center field and we throw out the guy at
home plate. Adam Bourassa and Ryan Johnson had excellent games but the
biggest hit of all was Stephen Ghutzman coming through for us."
North Carolina head coach Mike Fox:
"I thought it was a great college baseball game, we should have won. I
thought my kids played their hearts out. It was just a great game, and
Wake Forest has a great team and they showed it tonight the way they
played. We played well enough to win and I feel bad for my players that
we didn't win the game because we played well enough and hard enough to
do it, but this is baseball."
"We better put this one behind us quick. That is what tournaments do.
You've got to turn around quick and you can't dwell on the day before
because we know how good Georgia Tech is, but we'll be ready to play
tomorrow at 3:30."
