DURHAM, N.C. - Duke sophomore pitcher Zach Schreiber pitched the first
complete game of his career and led the Blue Devils to a 6-2 upset
victory over the third-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Jack Coombs
Field Saturday evening.
In his fourth start of the season, Schreiber allowed just two runs while
scattering seven hits and four walks. After giving up two runs in the
third inning, Schreiber settled down and took command of the game.
"We played excellent defense and that gave me a lot of confidence,"
Schreiber said. "I wasn't trying to overthrow. I was just trying to keep
the ball down in the zone and throw strikes. It was good to get a win.
We're excited."
"Zach Schreiber did a great job," Duke head coach Bill Hillier said. "He
stepped up and put us in a situationto win the game. Wake Forest is a
great program and that's a big win for us. Through all the adversity
we've faced the last few weeks, we've continued to battle. I'm glad the
final day of the conference everyone will be looking at everyone else's
scores."
