WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Chase Voshell went 2-for-5 with four RBI to lead the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 9-5 win over the Columbia Lions at Hooks Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Eric Schmitt (3-0) pitched an inning in relief, giving up no runs on no hits to pick up the win for Wake. Matt Weldman (0-1) pitched five innings, surrendering nine runs on nine hits to take the loss for the Lions.

Wake Forest opened up a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Voshell grounded out to second base scoring Cory Sullivan. The Deacs increased the lead to 4-0 with three runs in the third. Columbia, however, came back to take the lead with five runs in the top of the fifth. After Wake tied the score with a run in the bottom of the fifth, the Deacons took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

In addition to Voshell's four RBI, Jason Aquilante, Danny Borrell, Cory Slavik and Ricky Mendez each drove in a run for Wake.

With the win, Wake Forest is now 15-6 on the season, while Columbia drops to 1-10 with the loss. Wake will return to action on Friday, March 17 when they host the top-ranked Florida State Seminoles. Gametime is set for 3 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
