RALEIGH, N.C. - The North Carolina State Wolfpack scored three runs in the
bottom of the eighth to grab an 8-6 come from behind win over the
20th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the second game of a three-game
series at Doak Field on Saturday.
Ryan Lewis (0-1) pitched four innings in relief, giving up two runs on
three hits to take the loss for the Deacs. Mike Prochaska (2-0) pitched two
innings in relief, surrendering no runs on one hit to pick up the win for
the Wolfpack.
N.C. State jumped on top early with three runs in the bottom of the first
inning. The Wolfpack added a run in the second to increase its lead to 4-0.
Wake answered with a run in the third, but N.C. State scored a run in its
half of the inning to make the score 5-1.
After Wake scored a run in the fourth and two in the sixth, the Deacs took
a 6-5 lead on a two RBI single by Ricky Mendez in the eighth. N.C. State
then came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to grab the win.
Along with Mendez's two RBI, Stephen Sullivan, Chase Voshell and Jamie
Athas all drove in run for Wake. Prochaska went 2-for-5, driving in two runs
to lead the Wolfpack at the plate.
With the loss, Wake drops to 12-5 overall and 1-1 in ACC play. N.C. State
is 11-7 and 1-1 in the ACC. The same two teams will meet again on Sunday.
The first pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
