WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Cory Sullivan, Corey Slavik and Jamie Athas each went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the 20th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 13-3 win over the Virginia Commonwealth Rams at Hooks Stadium on Tuesday.

Freshman Ben Clayton pitched six innings, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out three batters to pick up the win and run his record to 4-1 on the season. John Korn (3-2) lasted just two-thirds of an inning and surrendered 10 runs on eight hits in taking the loss for the Rams.

After VCU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Wake Forest broke the game open with 10 runs in the bottom of the first. The Deacons had nine hits in the inning.

VCU came back with a run in the second, but Wake scored a run in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings to finish out the scoring.

Slavik belted his fifth home run of the season and had three RBI to lead the Deacons at the plate. Stephen Sullivan also drove in three runs and Danny Borrell drove in two.

With the win, Wake improves to 11-3 on the season, while Virginia Commonwealth drops to 13-6 with the loss. The Deacons will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Greenville, NC to take on the 23rd-ranked East Carolina Pirates. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
