Box Score

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Demon Deacons of Wake Forest (8-2) rapped out 20 hits in an 18-6 rout of the host Davidson Wildcats (8-6) on Tuesday afternoon at Wildcat Park. Everybody in the starting lineup for Wake Forest had at least one hit. This blowout comes just five days after the 'Cats suffered their worst loss in history, 30-4, against the Deacons in Winston-Salem.

The Deacons erased an early 2-0 Davidson lead in the second with three runs. Cory Sullivan doubled to straight-away center with the bases loaded, but only one run scored as the runner on second was thrown out at the plate. But with two outs, Jason Aquilante provided a two-run single into center field.

In the fourth, Wake scored four more, with the big blow being Chase Voshell's two-run triple to right center. But the big inning turned out to be the fifth in which the Deacons plated eight runs and chased Wildcat starter Todd Hassen (0-1). The scoring was capped by a tremendous three-run blast by Jamie Athas into the trees over the right-field fence.

Most of the damage, however, was done with walks and singles. Of Wake's 20 hits, 16 were one-base knocks, while the Wildcat pitchers also yielded 10 free passes.

Scott Siemon (3-1) pitched the first three innings to pick up his second victory over Davidson this year. He gave up two runs, both in the first on senior Stewart Sloan's two-run homer, on two hits while striking out three.

Aquilante, Danny Borrell and Corey Slavik each had three each hits, while Athas and Voshell drove in three runs for Wake Forest.

Sloan drove in three of Davidson's three runs, and sophomores Tim Frend and Jack Purcell had two hits apiece.

Davidson will be back in action on Wednesday evening in another game against an ACC school. The Wildcats will travel to Raleigh to take on North Carolina State at 6:00 p.m. Wake Forest travels to Minneapolis, Minn., to play in the Hormel Foods Classic this weekend. On Friday, the Deacons will play against Notre Dame at 12:15 p.m.
