WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Center fielder Cory Sullivan went 4-for-5 with an RBI and designated hitter Danny Borrell hit his fourth home run of the season to lead the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to an 11-7 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies at Hooks Stadium on Saturday.

Eric Schmitt pitched four innings in relief of Borrell, giving up no runs on one hit and striking out six batters, to pick up the win and improve his record to 2-0. Jason Bush pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up nine runs on 10 hits to receive the loss for the Hokies.

Virginia Tech grabbed the lead with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Wake answered with four in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-2 advantage. Borrell did most of the damage in the inning with a three-run homer with Chase Voshell and Jason Aquilante on base.

The score remained 4-2 until Virginia Tech took a 5-4 lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Left fielder Brad Bauder drove in the first two runs to tie the game and Addison Bowman singled to bring in Bauder for the go ahead run. Wake once again answered in the bottom half of the fifth with three runs of its own to take the lead for good. Aquilante drove in the first run for the Deacs and Voshell drove in the final two runs in the inning.

Wake added a run in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth for an 11-5 lead. Virginia Tech scored two more runs in the top of the ninth, but the Deacons held on for the 11-7 win.

Borrell and Matt Price each homered for Wake, while Jason Beale hit a two-run shot for the Hokies.

Wake improves to 6-2 with the win, while Virginia Tech drops to 3-2 with the loss. The same two teams will play again Sunday, with the first pitch set for 1:30 p.m. at Hooks Stadium. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children and free for Wake Forest faculty, staff and students.
