Wake Forest Comes From Behind To Defeat Liberty, 9-7

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Designated hitter Danny Borrell hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Wake Forest Demon Deacons a 9-7 come from behind win over the Liberty Flames at Hooks Stadium on Saturday.

Eric Schmitt (1-0), who relieved Borrell on the mound, pitched three innings, giving up no runs on two hits to pick up the win. David Bush pitched the final inning to get his first save of the season. Darren Adams pitched two innings and gave up two runs on three hits to take the loss for Liberty.

Liberty jumped on top with six runs in the first, but Wake answered with four in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to two. Each team scored a run in the second to give Liberty a 7-5 advantage. The Deacs scored two in the fifth inning to tie the game and set the stage for Borrell's game winner.

Borrell led Wake Forest at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Chase Voshell and Ryan Johnson had two hits and an RBI apiece. Matt Hagan had two hits and two RBI for Liberty.

Wake Forest improves to 3-2 on the season with the win, while Liberty drops to 1-1. Wake Forest will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 21 when they travel to High Point to take on the High Point Panthers. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
