About Smith... Arguably the Deacons' most improved player last season... took over the starting job at third base and is expected to remain there this season... one of the top clutch hitters on the team... came through with big hits throughout last season, especially in conference and postseason play... has shown the ability to hit for power... can make the spectacular play on defense... has an above average throwing arm... majoring in political science... born Jan. 5, 1987... son of Doug & Stephanie Smith.

In 2007... Started 46 games and appeared in 52 total... hit .258 with nine home runs and 31 RBIs... second on the team and 10th in the ACC in homers... slugged .462 for the year... in his first at-bat of the season, hit a two-run walk-off home run in the 10th against Charlotte on Feb. 27... hit a game-tying three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth against Miami on May 11... had a hit in 12 of 13 games from April 17 to May 12... had three seven-game hitting streaks on the year... started 43 games at third base and three at designated hitter.

In 2006... Saw action in 19 games, starting 15 in left/right field... batted .242 with eight RBIs on the year... hit his only home run of the season against Maryland on April 21, a three-run jack... had three two-hit games... went 1-for-4 with two RBIs against Florida State on May 6.

Prior to Wake Forest... Four-year letterwinner at American Heritage of Delray HS... batted .425 and belted 12 home runs over his four year scholastic career... started all four years, two years at shortstop and two at third base... served as team-captain for three seasons... named team MVP after sophomore and junior years... led team in hitting each of those years as well... two-time all-county honoree... played summer ball for the nationally-ranked Coral Springs Pokers... participated in Perfect Game World Wood Bat Showcase... named to the honor roll every quarter of high school.
