Wagner Lands Six On Water Polo Academic All-American Team

Junior Lindsey Rodgers was one of six Wagner players named to Academic All-American

June 4, 2007

Laguna Hills, CA -- The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches announced the 2007 Academic All-Americans and six Wagner women's water polo players were tabbed for the squad. The team was divided up into three categories of outstanding, superior, and excellent with the GPA scaled ranging from 4.0 to 3.2. The Green & White placed two athletes in each of the three categories.

Leading the way for the Seahawks was sophomore driver Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) who was one of just four athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA. The nursing major is coming off her selection as an ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American second team member for District One. Joining her in the outstanding category was junior two-meter Lindsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon) who tallied a 3.72 GPA in her first season on Grymes Hill after transferring from Fullerton JC/Cal State Fullerton.

In the superior category senior two-meter defender Corrine Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) finished her career at Wagner with a 3.54 GPA and was joined by classmate and driver Anne Wolkenhauer (Fullerton, CA/Fullerton) who posted a 3.53 GPA in her four year run. Rounding out the honorees in the excellent category was senior two-meter Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) who put up a 3.36 GPA and senior goalie Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) who hit the proverbial books hard in four seasons to register a 3.32 GPA.

"This was not only a great season for the athletes in the water, but they also performed great in the classroom. This is obviously a good statement about our sport: Water polo players are committed to both academic and athletic excellence", said Mike Lewis, the association's Executive Director.

Wagner head coach Patrick Beemer added "this honor for six of our student athletes to the Academic All-American team is just the latest in what has been a banner year for Wagner water polo. I couldn't have been happier upon hearing the announcement and this just goes to show that with hard work in the classroom great things can be accomplished," he concluded.

The Seahawks finished the season with a 17-16 record overall and were the 2007 MAAC Tournament Championships and they were one of just eight teams to advance to the 2007 NCAA Tournament held in Los Alamitos, CA.
