Seahawks Rally To Inch Past Iona 11-10

Sophomore Alex Tomlinson scored four goal in the win for Wagner

April 21, 2007

Stats

New Rochelle, NY --The Wagner College women's water polo team pulled off a dramatic come from behind victory over the Iona Gaels earlier today in MAAC action 11-10. The Seahawks battled back from a 5-1 first period deficit to move their record to 12-14 and 4-3 in conference play.

The Green & White started off slow with the first period deficit as the Gaels used the shallow end of the pool to their advantage. That led to a halftime score that found the Seahawks trailing 7-5. However, Wagner would not relent and was able to avenge a loss last week to Iona by outscoring the hometeam 6-3 in the second half.

Wagner was led by current MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) who had four goals along with Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) who also netted four scores. Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City), Corrine Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) and Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra) all scored a goal apiece in the winning effort.

Senior Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) rebounded from that first quarter to finish with seven saves for the game. Wagner is next in action later this afternoon when they take on Villanova University in a game at Iona.
