Marist Downs Wagner 8-7 In Heartbreaker

Senior Katie Hauck tallied 12 saves for Wagner in their loss to Marist

April 14, 2007

Stats

Poughkeepsie, NY --Wagner College dropped a game to Marist College 8-7 earlier this evening in conference play to fall to 10-13 (2-2 MAAC) on the year. This marks the third loss to the Red Foxes this season and fourth overall. The Seahawks came out hitting on all cylinders as they built a 5-2 halftime lead but would falter in the second half getting outscored 6-2 en route to the loss.

The Green & White had a banner first half building a 2-0 lead behind goals from Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra) and Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS). Marist countered with a score towards the end of the first after goalie Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) who racked up 12 saves was ejected leaving the game 2-1 in favor of the visitors after the first.

In the second Hoelck tacked on two more goals and Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) tallied a score to make it 5-2 at the half. However the start of the third quarter saw Marist hit on back to back goals cutting the Wagner lead to 5-4. Hoelck took a feed from Camille Karimzad (Walnut Creek, CA/Campolindo) and found the back of the net to expand the Wagner lead to 6-4.

However things then took a turn for the worse as Marist scored the last goal of the third period and the first two of the fourth quarter to take their first lead of the game at 7-6. Senior Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) who sat out the earlier game and most of this contest due to back pain came off the bench to fire home a goal tying the game at seven with 2:25 remaining. Yet just moments later Marist countered with a score and went up 8-7 which would be a deficit the Seahawks could not rally from.

The Seahawks are back in action tomorrow at Siena College when they take on the Siena Saints and Iona College Gaels.
