Stats

Poughkeepsie, NY -- The Wagner College women's water polo team made it a clean sweep in their opening weekend of MAAC play winning four straight, the last coming in an 11-4 victory over the host Marist Red Foxes. The win leaves the Seahawks (19-12, 4-0 MAAC) sitting in first place atop the MAAC empire.

Hours after a sluggish start in their win over St. Francis (NY) the Seahawks started this game hitting on all cylinders leaping out to a 7-2 halftime lead. They edged Marist 5-2 in second half scoring to go on to the victory. Junior Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumblerland Valley) continued to be an offensive juggernaut scoring three goals. Twin sister Corrine Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) was a defensive guru registering three steals.

Freshman Jennifer Anderson helped hold down Marist with three saves

Senior Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) added to the scoring punch with two goals and an assist while freshman Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) connected on two goals as well. Other scores came from a variety of sources including a goal each for Sara Kramer (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley), Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton), Anne Wolkenhauer (Fullerton, CA/Fullerton Union), and Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra). Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) contributed with three assists and two steals.

Keeping an eye on the net was the tandem of Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) and Jennifer Anderson. (Whittier, CA/La Serna) The goalies went dutch on the two halves with Hauck relocating nine Red Fox shots while Anderson discontinued three attempts as well.

Wagner will be back in action this Saturday at Villanova University for MAAC play where they will take on the host Wildcats as well as encounter a rematch with Marist.
