Stats

College Park, MD -- The Wagner College women's water polo team fell to Princeton University 10-8 in their second game at the ECAC Championships. With the loss Wagner falls to 15-11 and will now take on the host Maryland Terps tomorrow morning at 11:30 am.

Wagner came out of the gates early with a score by junior Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) to lead 1-0. However Princeton would then rip off six unanswered goals to head into the halftime up 6-1 and the Tigers were seemingly headed to an easy win.

The Green & White roared back in the third period lodging four scores to the Tigers three and as play moved to the fourth it was 9-5 Princeton. Wagner received goals in that period from sophomore Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS), junior Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra), Stacey Travous, and freshman Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City).

The fourth quarter began with promise for the Seahawks as Hoelck tallied a score from way downtown to bring Wagner to within three at 9-6. After Princeton scored again, Maichrowicz added her second score of the game to again bring Wagner within three at 10-7. Not long after Hoelck drew a four meter penalty and converted the shot and Wagner had battled all the way back to within two scores. That however would be as close as the Seahawks would get as their rally fell short.

Junior Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) was solid in net stopping ten shots in the losing effort.
