Wagner Water Polo Back In the Win Column After 18-7 Waxing of Queens

Senior Stacey Travous racked up a season high six goals in the win over Queens

March 30, 2007

Stats

Staten Island, NY -- The Wagner College women's water polo team celebrated senior day in outstanding fashion as they demolished visiting Queens College by a score of 18-7. The win snaps Wagner's six game losing streak and pushes them to 8-11 on the year with MAAC play starting next weekend.

The Green & White were led by their five seniors: Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley), Corrine Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley), Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville), Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra), and Anne Wolkenhauer (Fullerton, CA/Fullerton). All five scored at least one goal in the contest as Stacey Travous tallied a season high six goals while Peterson added three tallies. The six goals put Travous over the 200 goal mark for her career at Wagner.

Wolkenhauer and Cori Travous were each good for a score as was Hauck who started the game in her usual spot of goalie only to later move into the field.

The game started off slow with Queens notching the first score, but Wagner later tied the game at two and then kept their foot on the proverbial gas as they rung up a 10-3 halftime score. Wagner would go on to a six goal blitz in the third quarter and finish the game winners at 18-7.

Also getting on the scoring board for Wagner was Yvette Viramontes (Montebello, CA/Montebello), Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton), Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City), and Dru Murphy (Keller, TX/Jenks) who scored her first goal of the season.

Junior Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) who took for over for Hauck in net broke even on the day as she scored two goals and then allowed two scores.

Wagner is next in action a week from tomorrow when they begin conference play with games at Villanova University.
