Junior Billy Hoelck tallied three goals in Wagner's loss to LMU

March 18, 2007

Stats

Ann Arbor, MI -- The Wagner College women's water polo squad fell to the 11th ranked Lions of Loyola Marymount 14-4 earlier this morning on day three of the Wolverine Invitational. The loss drops Wagner to 7-9 on the season and is their fourth straight loss overall.

The Seahawks held their own in the first half against the top ranked Lions as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) score just 1:06 into the game. The Lions countered with two goals of their own but Hoelck again found the back of the net to even the score at 2-2 with 4:06 remaining.

LMU tallied the final goal of the first period to take a 3-2 advantage into the second stanza. However, just under a minute into the second period senior Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) wheeled inside shedding two defenders to put one past the Lion's goalie and knot the score at 3-3. The good times would end there however as Loyola Marymount then went and ripped off 11 straight goals on a run that spanned the rest of the second quarter, all of the third, and three minutes of the fourth.

Hoelck tallied her third goal of the day in the fourth quarter for the hat trick to stop the LMU run but that was all for Wagner on this day. Senior Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) played the whole way in net shunning 10 Lion shots while also blocking a five meter penalty shot.

The Seahawks have one more game at the Wolverine Invitational as they take on the top 20 ranked Hoosiers of Indiana University later this morning before returning home to Staten Island.
