Stats

San Bernardino, CA -- The Wagner College women's water polo team won their second straight one goal game in a thrilling overtime victory over the Rams of Colorado State by a count of 14-13. The Seahawks were down two late in the fourth quarter when they received goals from Sara Kramer (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley), and Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/ U. of San Diego HS) with a little over a minute and a half remaining. The Wagner defense then locked down the Rams forcing a shot clock violation with 29 seconds remaining. Wagner was unable to get a shot off as time expired and the contest headed to overtime which consisted of two- three minute quarters.

Junior Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra) struck in the first overtime tallying her only goal of the game to put Wagner up one after the first extra session. Hoelck would come back with the deciding goal in the second overtime pushing the Seahawk lead to 14-12. The Rams would answer with another goal to close within one. Colorado State then staged a last ditch effort to tie the game but Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) denied an initial attempt and Kramer followed with a deflection as time expired giving the Green & White their 10th win of the season.

The back and forth contest featured Wagner down 4-2 in the first quarter before Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) and Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) came up with goals to tie the game at four after one. Junior Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) would net two goals in the second period but Wagner was still trailing at the half to the high powered offense of Colorado State 7-6. It was early in the fourth quarter when Wagner was down 10-8; however not long after Crase drew a four meter penalty and Kramer cashed in on the penalty shot making things 10-9 Rams.

The Rams answered right back with a goal extending their lead again to two. Peterson drew one of her three ejections in the game and in the man up situation Hoelck scored one of her five goals on the day to again close the Green & White within one.

Wagner is next in action Tuesday when they take on Cal Baptist and Cal State San Bernardino.
