Barnett Named NEC Player Of The Week



Sophomore Brandy Barnett picked up her second NEC accolade of the season

SOMERSET, NJ - As they prepare for their first The Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament berth since the 2001 season the Seahawks learned today that sophomore Brandy Barnett (Claremont, CA / St. Lucy's Priory) was named the conference's Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 6-12.

Barnett takes home her second NEC Player of the Week award after posting four double-doubles in a 2-2 week for the Seahawks and helping them clinch an NEC Tournament berth for the first time since 2001. She hit .213 while tallying 63 kills, 58 digs, five service aces, five blocks and three assists over the four-match span. Barnett opened play hitting .360 with 11 kills and 27 digs in a 3-0 win over St. Francis (NY) and then tallied 18 kills, three aces, one block and 10 digs in a 3-1 setback to Delaware State. The sophomore outside hitter was key in the Seahawks win over Robert Morris, their first since 1998, hitting .263 with 21 kills, 11 digs, one ace and two blocks. She closed out the week, notching her 12th double-double of the season with 13 kills, 10 digs and two blocks in a 2-0 loss to Saint Francis (PA). Barnett ranks fifth in the NEC in kills (3.53 kpg) and averages 3.01 digs per game.

She collected her first weekly NEC award for her performance during the week of Oct. 23-29.

Wagner's wins over SFNY and RMU give the Seahawks nine on the season, marking the most by the Green & White since the 1999 team won 12 matches. Their four conference wins are also the most since the 2001edition also won four matches.

No. 6 Wagner (9-22; 4-4 NEC) will have a rematch with No. 3 Robert Morris in the first round of the NEC Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 12:30 pm at LIU in Brooklyn, NY.
