Wagner Volleyball Announces 2007 Schedule

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner Seahawks' volleyball team, fresh off their first Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament berth since 2001, have announced their 2007 schedule.

The Seahawks will play 21 games in the upcoming season, including 13 of the non-conference variety and eight against NEC teams. Wagner will host nine games and hit the road for 12.

The Wagner 12 will kick off their season with a Labor Day tilt on Sept. 3 against Navy in the Spiro Sports Center at 2 pm. Following a pair of road contests at SFNY (Sept. 8) and Lehigh (Sept. 11) the Green & White return to Staten Island for a return game against Lehigh (Sept. 13). The Seahawks continue their busy September when take part in the Colgate Tournament (Sept. 14-15), which will feature the home-standing Red Raiders, relative Division I newcomer Central Arkansas and NEC-rival FDU.

Following a trip to Loyola (MD) on Sept. 26, the Seahawks kick off their NEC slate when they host Defending Champion LIU on Monday, Oct. 1. After a pair of non-conference games against Saint Peter's (Oct. 3) and at NJIT (Oct. 12) the Seahawks host Connecticut schools CCSU (Oct. 13) and Sacred Heart (Oct. 14). The Green & White then begin the road part of the NEC schedule with a trip to scenic Pennsylvania for a NEC Tournament rematch with Robert Morris (Oct. 20) before doing battle with Saint Francis (PA) (Oct. 21).

Then it's back to non-conference action with a home match against La Salle (Oct. 23) and a road date at Lafayette (Oct. 24). The Seahawks will then conclude the home-portion of their schedule with matches against St. Francis (NY) on Saturday, Oct. 27 and NJIT on Friday, Nov. 2 at the Spiro Sports Center. Wagner returns to the road where they will wrap up their regular season with matches at FDU (Nov. 10) and Quinnipiac (Nov. 11).

The 2007 NEC Tournament will be held from Nov. 17-18 at a time and place to be determined. The top six teams will qualify for the tourney with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds receiving byes until the second round.

Wagner returns eight letterwinners and four starters from last year's team that went 9-23 and 4-4 in the NEC and suffered a tough five-set loss in the NEC Tournament.

Kevin Michael Papa's charges will be led by juniors Megan Conheeney (Roselle Park, NJ / Union Catholic), Sarah Garrette (Barrington, IL / Barrington) and Kelly Kasper (West Windsor, NJ / Windsor Plainsboro South).
