Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Seahawks completed an impressive victory this afternoon in a dominant performance against Northeast Conference rival Robert Morris University by besting the Colonials three games to one at the Spiro Sports Center. The Seahawks firmly set the tone by coming out and take the first game, 33-31. The second game was all Colonials 30-25, but the third game saw the Seahawks run away with it 30-18. In the fourth and final game Wagner turned the screws on the Pennsylvania school and took the game and the match with a convincing score of 30-20. The win marked not only knocking off the third ranked team in the NEC tournament come next weekend, but it also snapped a seven game losing streak against the Colonials. The four conference wins this season tie for the most victories since the 2001 Seahawk squad also posted four victories in an NEC season. Arguably the biggest win in the Kevin Michael Papa era, it came on Senior Day, when Wagner seniors Trish Morris (Queensland, Australia/St. Patrick's College), Kerry Krohn (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), and Lydia Emnott (Neenah, WI/Neenah) were honored for their careers on Grymes Hill. It was no surprise that those same seniors were very much responsible for the Seahawks coming out on the winning end on the afternoon. Emnott played all four games as the setter and racked up a solid 45 assists for the Green and White. Morris came up with 5 kills playing, also, in all four games while Krohn tallied 15 kills on the afternoon - recording another double-double with 12 digs - second only to Seahawk sophomore Brandy Barnett (Claremont, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) who led the way with a match-high 21 kills, to go with 11 digs. The Colonials were led by Janette Schneider who finished with 12 kills. The Seahawks last regular season match of the season comes tomorrow when they take on Saint Francis (PA) at noon at home in the Spiro Sports Center. |
