Seahawks Destroy SFNY 3-0 To Clinch NEC Tourney Berth

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - The Wagner College Seahawks clinched a Northeast Conference playoff berth in a dominating 3-0 win at St. Francis (NY) earlier tonight at the Genovese Center. Wagner won by scores of 30-9, 30-17 and 30-21 in improving to 8-20 and 3-3 in the NEC while the Terriers fall to 0-22and 0-7 in conference play.

The Green & White will play in the NEC Tournament on Nov. 18-19 at a site and time to be determined for the first time since the 2001 season.

The Seahawks were in control from the beginning hitting .093 on the strength of 37 kills while holding the Terriers to -.242 hitting and 13 kills. The Green & White also had nine service aces while holding SFNY to zero.

Sophomore Brandy Barnett (Claremont, CA / St. Lucy's Priory) paced the Wagner effort with her ninth double-double of the year, recording a match-high 11 kills, on .360 hitting, to go along with a career-best 27 digs. Senior Trish Morris (Queensland, Australia / St. Patrick's College) also had a strong match, posting 10 kills, 10 digs and eight assists while almost recording her first-career triple-double. Classmate Lydia Emnott (Neenah, WI / Neenah) had a match-best 18 assists and four aces. Sophomore Sirena LaBurn (Port Neches, TX / Port Neches) had 20 digs and senior Kerry Krohn (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) recorded 13 digs to round out the top-performers for the Green & White.

Wagner hits the road tomorrow for their final non-conference match of the year at Delaware State starting at 7 pm.
